english: When you run your own business it sometimes becomes very clear how “by yourself” you are and now little there are other people in your professional life. Actually there aren’t any in my case. Sunday evening I got a bad case of the stomach flu (ew I know) and not only was it a very hard night going monday but it was also just a really sucky and yucky monday. I used most of it watching movies, sleeping and trying to eat apple and hotdog buns. And in situations like this you really feel all alone in your own little world where you have 832 things to do and the email’s just keep coming in. Sometimes I feel jealous of those with a “regular” job where it’s okay to call in sick and where it doesn’t mean that the sky is falling down. But then when I get better again, I kinda wouldn’t trade this for anything you know? It’s good with the bad I guess.

english: To take care of yourself. What does that mean? What does it actually mean? Of course it’s a very individual thing I think. Both mental and physical health kinda has to go hand in hand for there to be an overall feeling of “health” right? Or? It’s difficult to define health, just like it’s also difficult to ensemble some definite guidelines of what it is “to be healthy”. The only thing you can really do is feel your body and mind and maybe listen to people around you, who you think are “healthy”. Weather that listening is through articles, blogs, books or tv shows – well that’s up to you. With this in mind, I wanted to write a little post about how I stay healthy. Mental health for me is good movies, music, to take photos of my loved ones and writing. I have written countless pages by hand, it calms me – sometimes it helps just to get it out you know? Whatever “it” is. Beauty and physical comfort is also a big part of what makes me feel “healthy”. And of course here applies beauty on both the outside and the inside greatly. I take a lot of vitamins and it’s very important to me to combine them in a way that’s just right for me. I love eating good, healthy snacks and drink plant based “milk”. I am in no way a fanatic regarding my food but I have chosen to cut certain things out of my diet and replace them with the healthier option so that I can “slack” other places. Beauty that goes on the outside is another thing, I love my facerollers, masks, quality skincare, bodyscrubs and various oils. Mental health is of course also to travel, but that’s a whole other talk that we can do another day. So long!

NEW HAIR WHO DIS

MADE IN COLLABORATION WITH SACO HAIR COPENHAGEN
Read more about Saco hair Copenhagen here

english: Oh my had I been looking forward to this for a looong time! I should have done this before Christmas but CHEERS to laziness. I desperately needed a haircut. My bangs were longer than my neighbors breasts and to be honest I looked rather shagged (and not in a good way). I quite often get questions about my hair, especially on instagram so I thought I would do a little post explaining where I get it cut, what I get done and so on. My hair is cut by the amazing Betty Christoffersen. Betty is the co-founder of Saco hair located in Fiolstrædet in central Copenhagen. She is the only one I let touch my hair, with a scissor in her hand that is (I rarely pass on hair cuddles). Besides cutting my bangs, Betty also fixed my split ends and gave me a gloss. Betty recommended that we did a gloss because my overly sun exposed LA hair was very dull and needed a pick me up. A gloss is nothing permanent just a layer of care, shine and life to the hair. It’s also possible to add a little bit of color but it’s all washed out after a while. I have natural curls but these were made by Betty! Wish they were mine, I always love how she styles my hair. I have put in a link under the photo to SACO if you wanna check it out yourself. Enjoy!

MY FUNNY VALENTINE

Lingerie / Wolford
(discover universe here)

Location: Stockholm
Photos taken with Canon 5D & Instax Wide 300 (shop here)

Happy Valentines Day.

english: Valentines day is about so much more than love for your partner. In my opinion, you should celebrate this day how ever you want. If you are in a relationship I hope you get spoiled and I hope you are spoiling your partner – ladies I am serious, it’s valentines for him too. But if you aren’t in one, I hope you spoil yourself. Buy yourself a new bag, buy yourself a cheeseburger – or heck, do both! One of my biggest love affairs is lingerie. I love, adore and cherish lingerie. I also love how for me, it’s as much for myself as it’s for someone else. Feeling good is priceless so never forget to capture those moments when you feel good. I love taking polaroids through out my life to remember what I looked like. I know when I look back at these in my 40’s, 50’s or 60’s I will cherish them greatly. I guess my message this valentines is; love yourself, you deserve it. Happy Valentines Day.

Hairspray (shop here), Mousse (shop here), Dry shampoo (shop here)

english: As you may have noticed on my instastory, I was so lucky, that during Copenhagen Fashionweek, I got to be backstage at the Designers Remix show with Sebastian Professional. Here, the 80’s had arrived. Chic midtparts and imperfect ends were key to this modern 80’s take on a curly hairstyle. The hair had different types of curls to resemble the look of a perm from the 80’s. Key products to create this look included hairspray, a bouncy mousse and dry shampoo. The dry shampoo, especially, is what creates the dryness and illusion of the “split ends” which is a big part of the look. I was so lucky that I got to ask Sebastian Professionals global artist, Nina Larsen, some questions about the look and herself. Read below. Enjoy!

3 QUESTIONS TO NINA LARSEN, KEY ARTIST, SEBASTIAN PROF.

How do you, as the key stylist, come up with new looks all the time?

As key stylist it’s very important to keep track of the new tendencies. You are either lucky to be able to create and develop looks yourself or you are not. Creativity is a gift. For me to be creative, it’s important for me to have the space and time to reflect. I get this during my many travels where I take the time to reflect but also to gather new inspiration. It’s also important for me to be surrounded by creative minds and create together.

What is your best hair trick?
A bun can be hard to style because we want it to look natural and organic. What’s important is the product you use during your blowdry. Add a bit of the Sebastian Texture Maker into damp hair and blow-dry with your head down to create that “fluff” in the hair. The Texture Maker creates a texture that makes the hair much easier to style. If you want a high bun, put your head between your legs and make a high ponytail. Use your hands. Then you twist the ponytail around it’s center. A good tip is to make it tighter than you want it at first, that way you know it’s secure. When the bun is finished you are ready to style it in the front and loosen it in the back. Finish your look with Sebastians Drynamic dryshampoo for that messy finish.

What are you personal favorite products from Sebastian Professional?

My favorites right now are Sebastian Dark Oil and Sharper Fierce. Dark Oil smells amazing and can be used before blow dry but also in dry hair to add some shine. Dark Oil gives a nice soft feel to the hair while it nurtures and add’s shine. The Sebastian Sharper Fierce is a hairspray with strong hold. I love that it’s so dry in it’s consistency yet the hair still feels light.

POST FASHIONWEEK | ME TIME

MADE IN COLLABORATION WITH FUZE TEA
Read more about Fuze Tea here

Glasses, White marble board, Yellow marble board, Pitcher / All from Broste Copenhagen (see catalogue here)

english: I am a big fan of me time, me time is important. Not just to me, it’s also important to the people around me. They get a much better Maria in their life if I take my me time. I never really understood me time until a few years ago where I suffered an ulcer from stress. Stress from living in a new city, working my ass of at my new job, trying to be a great girlfriend, the perfekt daughter and trying to live my (many) dreams, amongst other things. My little ulcer still lives in my stomach and it kindly gives me a little tug when I need to take some me time. Fashionweek can be a stressful time. Luckily I have it easy; I am driven around in awesome cars, my shows are all in my calendar and the driver knows where I am going. People are always nice and it’s a fun time. But it’s still looong days, lot’s of mingling, lot’s of pictures to take and sets of clothes to change into. So the week after, I need some me time. My me time can be many things; I love watching friends, doing a facemask or laying on a park bench looking into the sky and listen to Elton John – it all depends on the mood. Something I also love is to spend time in the kitchen, making stuff. One of my favorite flavors from my childhood is peach ice tea so when Fuze tea asked me to taste their new range of ice teas I was all in. Fuze tea is made with black tea extract and natural fruit flavors and makes for a great refreshment. I like to make a little “drink” with my ice tea. Apart of me time is also making me feel special and a nice looking beverage does that for me. I love to add raspberries and mint to the peach flavored tea and lemon with a stench of rosemary for the lemon flavored tea. These extra little ingredients not only makes a pretty drink but a full experience. Enjoy!

God torsdag derude!

english: My color pallet is often influenced by my surroundings. I am so lucky to live in the middle of Copenhagen (that’s also the most beautiful part, in my opinion), and that is right by Amalienborg, the marble church and the old Odd Fellow mansion. The sandy exterior, the white windows and the mighty buildings brings me a sense of serenity everyday. My new favorite shirt is this one from Weekday x Champion. I have mentioned in a previous post that I am in love with teddy at the moment so this is a great add on to my current collection. It’s only just launched today so hurry into one of the stores or online to check it out. Tomorrow I am off to Oslo! I am so excited I have never been there before and I look forward to being apart of their fashionweek! Happy Thursday!

SPORTY SUE

english: Hi beauties! I just found a little map of outfits on my desktop that I didn’t get around to publishing in 2017. So I thought I would share them with you now. Let’s start with some color lovin’. Taken sometime this summer, somewhere in Copenhagen by Laura. I had for a short while a very intense love of the mixing of something very sporty with very not so sporty. Like mixing Cedric Charlier and Nike. Please notice the bangs – god damm it, those are fine!

Shirt / Gina Tricot, Skirt / Monk, Sunglasses / Céline, Bag / Marni, Sandals / Chanel

A RAINBOW OF RED

english: I wore this second outfit almost all of July last year, or at least thats how I remember it. It was comfortable, colorful and warm enough to keep the chilly danish summer out. I still have this knit hanging in my closet. It’s still pretty cool, I have to say!

Shirt / Résumé, Pants / DKNY, Sunglasses / Versace, Sandals / Chanel

SCANDI GIRL

english: A shoutout to my scandinavian roots. The scandinavian style sector is not really a place I often navigate but I loved this look. I am so into the long and wide pants together with the tracksuit shirt from Résumé. I am already looking forward to summer so I can wear my chanel sandals again. They are just beautiful!

Knit / Acne, Shirt / Gina Tricot, Skirt / Iceberg, Bag / Balenciaga, Shoes / AGL

THIGH HIGH SLIT

english: I would like to start of by commenting on how high the slit in this skirt is! Jesus christ! It’s not for kids or drunk people – is that how the saying goes? It’s high, thats for sure. I love the beautiful colors in this outfits and the kitten heels. It’s inspired by Laura, I’m sure. It must be!

Shirt / Cedric Charlier, Pants / ASOS, Bag / Cult Gaia, Shoes / Tibi

ALL ABOUT THE FRILL

english: There is nothing like a simple summer outfit. During the summer months I am always loving a simple color pallet – it’s so nice and calm while the nature is blooming with color around you. Light blue is always a favorite of mine and I remember how much I loved this shirt because of it’s big frill detail on the top and it’s asymmetrical bottom. A light blue top doesn’t have to be a boring choice at all.

Dress / Zara, Shoes / Tibi

CANDY FACTORY

english: This is probably my favorite look from all of 2017 – I wore this dress so much that I almost missed it when it needed a wash. I bought it in Greece. It was also in Greece that I “discovered” this hair-do. I totally fell in love with this sleek ballerina bun and I have used it a lot since. If I should do a style recap of 2017 this is what I would say defined it for me. This is what I felt best in.

I am wearing:
Pyjamas shirt / Yolke (shop here)

I dag vil jeg vise jer hvordan jeg laver min go to “low messy bun”.

english: Hey everybody! I am back with yet another tutorial – it seems that you guys like theses so I have decided to do more of them. Today I wanna show you how I do my go to low messy bun. It quickly becomes a very easy hairdo once you have done it a couple of times. I wear my hair like this on mondays and to parties. It’s super versatile. I have made a step by step guide down below. Enjoy!

Step 1
Prepping the hair

Products used:
Hydrating styling creme / Moroccan oil (shop here), Grip spray / Lernberger Stafsing (shop here)

Prepping the hair is one of the most important steps when doing a hairdo. I always used to underestimate this step because “how important can it be?” – well as it turns out, quite. So for this look first what I do is I smooth the ends of my hair. I use Moroccan oil’s hydrating styling creme and just run my fingers over my hair. Second I use a grip spray also known as a dry shampoo. I LOVE using dry shampoo because it kinda gives you the option of molding your hair into place without the stiffness of hairspray. I lift the crown of my hair and spray it into the routs. Remember to let the product sit for a while before you continue. That way it’s easier to work with.

Step 2
Parting the hair

Products used:
See through hair ties / Asos (shop here)

Now this step you might not find totally necessary once you have the next step completely down but it’s good for beginners. Part your hair from just over your ears and up. I like to use these almost invisible hair ties, they are easy to use and really keeps the pony in place. If you havn’t tried them yet, please do, they will change your life.

Step 2
Roll and tug

Products used:
Hairpins

Now this part is a bit tricky to explain but I am going to give it a go anyway. So the key to the low bun is actually to create “a bun”. So what I like to do is start at the ends of my hair and using two hands, simply roll up. When you have a shape you like place two hairpins inside the roll, one on each side to hold it in place. You might need more than two, so just place them within the roll where you see fit. As long as it’s secure you are good to go on to the next step.

Step 3
Secure with hairclip
Hairclip / Pico (shop here)

Securing your chosen hairclip just over the top of the bun is how I like to do it. I like these large slender hairclips from Pico, they are easy to use and you can fit a lot of hair in them. Finish the look by pulling out random strands of hair and you are done. Don’t worry about it being too perfect. It’s not supposed to be.

Thank you for tuning in

X M
