WHERE TO IN 2019

IN COLLABORATION WITH WOW AIR

When the year comes to an end, one of my favorite things to think about for the new year is “where will I travel?”. Obviously there are an insane amount of places I still want to see, I mean even though I am and have been extremely privileged – I’m just still so hungry for the world.

I have been so lucky in 2018 to travel to some amazing places. China had been on the top of my list for YEARS, walking on that wall was a memory for life and I finally got to see Bali. I spent time in Cannes with my best girlfriends and I got to return to LA once again. And that’s just some of the travels I did.

Lately I’ve had this idea of seeing Australia again, I went there for 5 weeks when I was 12 cause we are so lucky to have family there but since that’s over 10 years ago (omg right) – I’d love to go again. What I’d really like to combine it with is my next trip to Bali and when I say next I mean next cause boy am I going back there. There are very few places that I just must go back to. So far in my life I have ever only felt that way about Los Angeles, but after visiting Bali I am afraid the same thing has happened to me. I guess it’s kinda the same feeling about movies right? Some you say, “wow great movie, but I need some time before I watch it again” or “It was wonderful but I don’t think I will need to watch it again” and then there are just some that make you go “I’ll watch that again tomorrow” cause they are just that good. So far, Los Angeles is my “pretty woman” and Bali is my “eat pray love” – actually never thought about those both being Julia Roberts movies, strange.

But! New years are also for new places, and there are many of those too, I’d like to see. On the list is currently, Hawaii, Mexico (many places in Mexico), the Caribbean, a roadtrip in Italy, Tokyo or Hong Kong (or both) and Canada. Canada is quite different than the others I admit, but I have always wanted to see Vancouver and there are so many fantastic places to ski in Canada and since I’ve never tried that – it has become a priority. Luckily my always partner-in-crime WOW air has just launched Vancouver as a new destination, read more about it here. They also fly to Montréal and Toronto so basically I am ready to get Canada’fied!

In other news and still speaking of WOW air, they will be opening up their very first route to Asia in 2019 and I am so excited. They will start flying to New Dehli, India – can you believe it? I used to think I never wanted to see India, but as I have gotten older, it moves higher and higher up on my list. I would love to go to New Dehli, drive in the streets, discover their amazing kitchen, see the Taj Mahal in Agra and from there travel to the country side to meditate and stay at one of their amazing healing and spa facilities. Obviously I will still be going back and forth between LA and CPH a lot, it’s like being divided between two, but it’s okay. I love LA just as much as I love my home so I will be boarding that pink plane many times again in 2019. Oh so many dreams and so many places to go, one can only hope to see it all.

BEAUTY | AUTUMN FAVES

Body Hero / Glossier (shop here), Skin solution / Glossier (shop here), Rose balm / Glossier (shop here), Tinted balm / Paw Paw (shop here), Drying lotion / Mario Badescu (shop here), Essence / Sensai (shop here), Eye primer / Marc Jacobs (shop here), Nose strips / Miniso (from China)

Book / Louis Vuitton (shop selection here)

Yes yes yes it has happened. I have jumped on the glossier wagon and my god – it is as good as people say. I am unfortunately one of those people who become almost “sainty” against anything that is hyped. I don’t know why but there is just something in me who refuses to jump on any form of hype train. I didn’t like Justin Bieber when I was younger (only cause my friends loved him), I absolutely refused to watch Gossip Girl while it was popular (I have since watched it and my god it is AMAZING), and it took me a good year before I tried Glossier. There is a reason why things are popular, and I am really working on being more willing to go with the trends. I might just be a grumpy old man inside who think that “the stuff the young people like” is nonsens. But it’s really not.

My favorite Glossier product definitely is their “solution”. It minimizes pores and add’s an unbelievable amount of glow. It’s an absolutely fantastic product and I think everybody should be using it, and I really mean that. Other products that has made my favorites this month is the Paw Paw tinted balm in peach, I use it on my cheeks and on my lips for a fantastic shade of YUM! Drying lotion from Mario Badescu has been on my blog many times before but it keeps being an absolute necessity in my life so here it goes again.

Essence from Sensai is a LIFE savior – it’s a total anti-ageing essence with a soft formulation that quickly (and holistically) restores firmness. I am in love! Nose strips were bought in China (but aren’t they kinda the same everywhere?) and the Marc Jacobs beauty primer needs really very little introduction, it’s just the best eyeshadow primer ever.

Lumberjacks term: are North American workers in the logging industry who perform the initial harvesting and transport of trees for ultimate processing into forest products.

Which is not me obviously, but I love “their” checked shirts. So much indeed I wear them at least 4 times a week (if not more). It fits the relaxed Cali vibe perfectly and they are super comfortable. Kinda like a jacket, because an actual jacket is too warm. My favorite combo at the moment is biker shorts, a sports bra, tons of jewelry, sneaks and lumberjack shirts. Love when I get a new go to outfit, it’s like finding a new favorite song – epic!

JW FORCE

BY WOMEN FOR WOMEN

JWFORCE – what is that now? I know some of you have seen it on my instagram, so I wanted to do a more elaborate post about what the hell JWforce is. The idea of JW came to us about one year ago, it was after a couple of months where B had been hitting the gym hard and I was, quite frankly, laying on my couch, eating spaghetti and watching friends. At the same time I was working from home so I didn’t get out very much, which, to be fair, always suits me fine but B had other plans for me. So she started sending me a text everyday saying “hey we’re going to the gym, I’m picking you up at 4”.

Naturally I resisted a great deal at first because I don’t like going to the gym and more relevant I don’t like working out – so why would I go. Also I was fine with the fact that my gym membership was more of a accessory in my wallet than an actual thing I did. BUT wanting to be a good friend (only for B), I started going. Not every time, but almost. Soon it became a routine and after a month I would automatically start to just put on my workout clothes around 3.45 and I would look forward to getting picked up at my front door at 4. The exercises became easier and no matter how much I complained to B she still picked me up after work so suddenly it wasn’t so bad. After a while we started experimenting with different workout techniques, eliminating what didn’t work and developing things that did. Then in April, we went to Bali and we became completely obsessed with healthy life style in general. Food, mindfullness, exercise – all of it. Suddenly it all made sense, how it wasn’t just about getting to the gym and punishing the body but how it was about love. Love for the body with what you put in it, on it and how you take care of it.

So we decided to start an instagram page dedicated to our new discoveries, called JW FORCE. The J is the first letter of my surname (Jernov) and the W is the first letter of Birgitte’s surname (Wiborg) and of course the FORCE is because we love star wars. No I’m totally kidding. It’s cause that’s what we call our community, the force. The page will be about our eating habits, the different exercises we have learned that works, about our favorite beauty and the travels we do and so on and so on. We’re so excited to share our little universe with you and hope to see many more of you join!

I WANNA WEAR | OKTOBER

1. Knit / By Malene Birger (shop here), 2. T-shirt / Urban Outfitters (shop here), 3. Silk skirt / Georgia Alice (shop here), 4. Diamond tennis necklace / The last line (shop here), 5. Sneakers / Adidas Yung-1 (launch 1. nov shop here), 6. Bag / Supreme (shop here), 7. Perfume / Hermés (shop here), 8. O!Mega Gel-eyeshadow / Marc Jacobs beauty (shop here)

Oktober has already almost come to an end – and I still need to share my “I wanna wear”. SO – here we go. A little less colorful option from me this month, but also kinda my everyday uniform. I am in love with these midi silk skirts combined with a t-shirt and some kind of knit thrown over the shoulder. It’s pretty much my go to outfit next to denim shorts and white tee’s. I wonder when I’ll be too old for that outfit but we’ll see. Also, how awesome is this Supreme/North face bag?! It’s already sold out (surprise) and I am desperate for it. It’s a combo of leather and nylon and oversized – I am dying!

The Yung-1’s are amazing, I already have the white ones but these would make a nice add on to my sneaker collection. They are released on november first, don’t forget to be on your toes if you want a pair! I’m still obsessed with the new O!MEGA gel-eyeshadows from Marc Jacobs, in case you didn’t see my story on IG where I tested all the new colors, I can tell you that they are absolutely worth a try at Sephora! This dark sparkly one is perfect for all the upcoming parties in the winter time.

The string of goodness you see at the top of the collage is my newest favorite jewelry brand “The Last Line” – LA based jewelry company who specializes in beautiful creations in all the colors of the rainbow. My personal favorite (AND BIGGEST CHRISTMAS WISH) is this tennis necklace. I can’t stop looking at it, it’s so amazing. Happy shopping people!

TIP | GRACIAS MADRE

Gracias Madre
8905 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069
Read more here

I am back with yet another tip from the city of angels. Maybe someday this blog will just turn into an LA blog – we never know. That’s a joke btw. BUT I wanted to share a tip for a restaurant with you. People who are familiar with LA and especially West Hollywood will probably know it. It’s called Gracias Madre and is a plant based Mexican restaurant that specializes in meat alternatives and brilliant cocktails. It’s the perfect place for a relaxed dinner, you can sit both outside in the courtyard but also inside in the beautifully decorated restaurant. If you appreciate a sense of style, this is definitely the place for you. I wasn’t super impressed with the presentation of the food itself but it was delicious and a good marble table always helps. The crowd was everything from super fancy hollywood’ers to big family enjoying a good meal. It’s reasonably priced and a really cosy place to hang out. Remember to make a reservation – it’s pretty crowded.

It’s funny how bikershorts have suddenly become a thing. But I wanna say thanks to whoever wore them out as an outfit first – because I am in LOVE with them. I grew up around professional biking, my older brother was on the national team and used to bike all around the world so this “uniform” is not foreign to me. I just never thought about wearing them out with a dress shirt and a pair of heels but I really mean it when I say – It’s my new favorite outfit. I have found that SPANX makes amazing “biker shorts” – they are actually just high waisted, tummy tightening panties but I like to use them as shorts. They are so high waisted, it gives me life!

Also the day I wore this outfit I drove by this big marble looking building in WeHo and just yelled “WE HAVE TO STOP HERE” so loud that Birgitte almost jumped out the car in fear. But seriously – who could have dreamed of a whole building in look a like marble?! My god the world is once again perfect. Arhg.. that might be a stretch but LA keeps being amazing!

NOBODY AROUND

T-shirt / No brand, Pants / IAMGIA (shop here), Shoes / Adidas Yung-1 (shop here)

Ring / Bodil Binner (see more here), Earrings / Jane Kønig (shop here)

I had been wanting to see Joshua tree for years. Cause lets be honest, the photos people take there look like magic. Basically Joshua tree and Yucca Valley is about 3 hours east of LA – over the mountains and directly into the desert. It’s like another world. I have had my bestie B staying with me for a couple of weeks and we decided to take a trip out into the nothingness. We rented a small, but wonderful cabin in the middle of nowhere in Yucca Valley about 10 minutes in car from the Joshua Tree national park and just had the best time. No neighbors, no pavement on the roads – just sunshine and some wine. More pics from Joshua Tree coming up. Stay tuned.

I WANNA WEAR | SEPTEMBER

Blazer / Missoni (shop here), Jeans / Supreme NY (shop here), T-shirt / Redone (shop here), Socks / In n out (shop here), Sneakers / Balenciaga (shop here), Bag / Boyy (shop here), Earrings / Gucci (shop here)

Picture / Pinterest

If I were to write one of these for September at home in Copenhagen, it might have looked a bit different. Warmer, I guess. Over here the sun is shining but that doesn’t mean we don’t layer up a little bit, the evenings get colder and I like to switch my sandals for sneakers. I am very much into the blazer, t-shirt and jeans look. It’s comfy, stylish and put together without being overly “dressed”. This blazer from Missoni is constantly on my mind since I found it! It’s a knitted blazer that will add just the right amount of slouch to any outfit – I love it! The supreme jeans is a constant craving of mine but I can never find them in my size – always sold out they are. Damn it. The new triple S colors are awesome, I might already have them in all white but I wouldn’t mind rocking these blue and purple detailed ones. All in all – I need more money! So much awesome stuff to wear, cruel and unfair fashion world.

THOUGHTS ABOUT DIGITAL DETOXING

Conclusion

This is not gonna be an “omg I’m a new person and everything is sparkly now” kind of post. I’m gonna try to be very honest with my experience as I think it’s an important subject. I’m normally quite private. Yes this is a “personal blog” but I never really talk about much more personal things than the weather. That’s not what I wanted this blog to be, you see – I wanted it to be about the products, the travels, the outfits – not about my oatmeal or weather or not me and my boyfriend were fighting. I’m not really like that in real life either, I share real stuff with very few people and therefore I wanted the blog to be my creative space more than my personal outlet. BUT with that said, this subject is personal and it is something worth talking about.

Was my digital detox a revelation? No. Obviously not – 6 months on a deserted island probably would be or a winter spend it total isolation in Scotland – sure. But these 10 days, not so much. It was a break and I needed it, more than ever really. Digital detoxing is a weird phenomenon, I always thought that it would be a super easy thing to do cause it’s just putting your phone down right? I don’t think we realize how much we have a phone in our hand until we don’t. The first 3 days I barely knew what to do with myself when I was “bored” cause normally I just pull out my phone and TADA – suddenly I am not bored anymore. But I had some good “staring into space” moments and after a while it really wasn’t so bad. I slept a lot, cried a bit and went for a lot of walks. Repairing myself I guess – it has been hard not slowing down or taking any sort of break for as long as I have. Honestly I could use a bit more time of, I mean, I love what I do – but it’s a long time since I just felt myself and didn’t rush through my day like a maniac. So what I am thinking is, I need a new way of going about these days of mine that I feel so blessed to have. Breathe more and actually allow myself some breaks, because I never do. In my mind everything can always be done better and faster. If I take any sort of break or I don’t eat in front of my computer or don’t do a phone meeting on my way to another meeting I almost punish myself for not being effective enough. It’s scary and I don’t want it to be like that anymore. It’s not that I want to be less productive but I would like to enjoy my day and not just make time go as fast as possible so I can do as much as possible. It sucks. Anyway – that’s all I had to say about that. Digital detoxing is always a good idea and I definitely recommend it – but I will say this, instead of enhancing the detoxing of my life I think I wanna work on being better towards myself everyday and not just every 3 years.
